Revisiting the past at El Cuartel

If you want to travel back in time and feel how it is to be back in the Spanish era, wait for a time machine no more. El Cuartel is just a three hour drive away. Situated at Oslob, a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu. Also known for their “tuki” or whale sharks, you can already experience how it looks like back then.

Cuartel was built by the Spaniards in 1898 and it served as the town’s first line of defense for naval infantry.

Nuestra Senora dela Immaculada Concepcion – Constructed in 1830 and was razed by a fire last March of 2008. It undergone a renovation to preserve its heritage.

It’s quite fascinating how a small town in the South of Cebu can keep a number of wonders and heritage. If locals in Oslob will continue with its’ heritage preservation, it will surely be a hit tourist destination in Cebu.

Getting here from Cebu City will require you to board a bus plying Oslob-Bato at Cebu’s South Bus Terminal. Travel takes around 3 hours and costs 155 php. This is a good side trip after swimming with the whale sharks. Getting here from Tan-awan only needs one tricycle ride.
