Travel Guide to Mt. Pico De Loro (Traverse)

For thrill-seekers and mountaineering junkies, the Monolith / Parrot’s Beak is one known destination. Situated at the boundary of the provinces of Cavite and Batangas, stands Mt. Palay Palay or commonly known as Mt. Pico De Loro, where the famous Monolith is perched.

The said mountain has a minor climb specification with a 3/9 difficulty making it one of those beginner-friendly mountains.

How to get there:

Take a bus bound to Ternate, Cavite at the South Bus Station at Coastal Mall. Upon arrival at the Ternate Terminal in Sapang, Ternate take a trike to the DENR Station.

For the way back during the traverse, upon arrival at the Nasugbu Highway, one can take a trike back to Nasugbu Terminal. From there, you can take a bus bound to Edsa MRT/LRT in Pasay Taft.

Take note that the jump-off point is the block before the DENR Station and from there you will be welcomed by an orchestra of cicadas and other insects. It is an easy trek and the trail is shaded making it as one of the frequented day hike destination near Manila.

Update: The new jump-off point is located just beside the DENR station. Pico De Loro is closed as of the moment.

Just be advised that the way up to the summit could get so hot especially during the afternoon as there are no shade on that part of the mountain, and depending on the number of hikers, waiting time at the Monolith could get so long.

Itinerary:

0500 ETD from Coastal Mall

0730 ETA Ternate, Cavite then take a trike to DENR

0800 ETA DENR Station

0830 Start Trek

1100 Arrival at the Summit

1300 Start descent to Nasugbu

1530 ETA at Nasugbu Highway, take a trike to Nasugbu

1620 ETA at Nasugbu Terminal

2000 ETA Manila

tired of selfies and groupies? how about some panoramic shot?

The more than two hours of trek was worth it when we reached the summit. The view is very scenic and one will find it hard to resist taking selfies and groupies. If you plan to stay overnight, better be early to secure a spot close to trees to avoid that much heat during the height of the afternoon.

There is a store readily available at the summit though it only sell limited stuff like biscuits, chips, candies and cold drinks. It would be more convenient if you’ll have your lunch ready with you as prices at that store are not friendly to your pocket.

The descent is easy but you will see yourself going down on slopes for the first few minutes. Your group will pass by a river, but in our case, it was all dry due to the season. Also it could get confusing at times as to which way you should go every time you reach a fork. Lucky us, we had someone who climbed Mt. Pico De Loro countless of times already.

We were able to reach the jump-off point in Nasugbu after more than 2 hours, and from there we took a trike going to the town. Others went to conquer Mt. Talamitam (and Mt. Batulao the following day) while four of us chose to go back to Manila already.

Side trip:

Take the Nasugbu Trilogy challenge and conquer Mt. Pico De Loro, Mt. Talamitam and Mt. Batulao in two days.

Or if you take the way down back to Ternate, you can plan a beach getaway after at neighboring resorts like Puerto Azul.

Mt. Pico De Loro blew me away with its picturesque landscape at the summit as well as its death-defying Monolith. It has been on my list – to climb Mt. Pico De Loro and reach the top of the Parrot’s beak, and I made it. For less than 500 php, I was able to cross something out on my bucket list and not only that for I was able to gain new friends, inspire a friend to try mountaineering (Hi Brian!), and I got to meet Tatay Oca whose story inspired not only me.

Current Update: Mt. Pico De Loro is closed. No information yet as to when it will be open to public again.

    Hi Bratpacker,

I plan to go to Pico de Loro in solo. Would you mind if I ask for the name of your guide there? Been wanting to hike alone eh. Hehe!

    Thank you so much!

    More power to you.
    Take care.

      Hi Amy!

Actually, we had no guide when we went there and a guide is not needed. The trail to the summit is easy to follow. All you’ve got to remember is the jump-off point, which is the block before the DENR Station. Then at the assault (few meters before the camping ground), you’ll encounter a big rock, the way is on the left. And if ever, there are a lot of hikers in the area. You won’t get lost 🙂

      Thanks for reading!

hellow idol,, ask ko lang kung, ilang hours or days before you reach the summit?
may mga bawal bang dalhin dun? nagbabalak kasi kaming pumunta ng mga kaibigan ko this coming august, hope you can give us some advise.

        thanks idol.

      2. Kenneth says:

Hi! Sorry sa late response. If I’m not mistaken, it took us almost around three hours or 2.5 hours. Wala naman atang bawal as long as you will be responsible with your trash after.

        Thanks for reading Jay-ar!

      3. rusbel says:

      4. Kenneth says:

        Hi Rusbel,

There are some who prefers to trek at night so I guess it won’t be a problem. 🙂

    2. Gela says:

I’m going there with a friend on April 27th, I can’t find any tour packages online so I guess we’ll just go their on our own! 🙂 Great post! Hope we don’t get lost. It’s gonna be our first time trekking lol

      1. Kenneth says:

It is going to be fun! There are a lot of climbers along the trail so you can ask. Tell me if you got lost or your experience after 🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy your first trek.

    3. Kate says:

Alright, thank you soo much!!! Sobrang helpful 😊👍

      1. Kenneth says:

I also replied to your IG comment. Enjoy Pico De Loro!

  2. Hi,
i have read many blogs mentioning Magnetic Hill. What’s the difference between this to Sapang? Our group has planned to climb this holy week and most of my co-group are first-timer. Is the trail easy to follow? Hope we won’t be lost 🙂 We’re from Manila and best place to get to Ternate through bus from Coastal Mall. Then, where we must get off? Sapang Terminal or Magnetic Hill? Thanks a lot! Great post.

    1. Kenneth says:

Basically the same, it was just the name that the trike driver said to me when asked what the place is called. Sapang Terminal or Magnetic Hill would be the last stop when you take a bus bound to Ternate. Yes, the trail is easy to follow and if ever you’ll get lost, you’ll also find your way.

You’re welcome Sir Albert and hopefully your first-timer friends will enjoy the climb and pursue mountaineering. Then if ever you guys will see me on the trail, hope we could share some stories.

  3. Ah now i know. Same lang pala. Thanks for the trike driver. Hope to see you on trail while climbing. Your post about Pico was informative which really helps a lot for most climbers and beginners. Thanks bro!

    1. Kenneth says:

Oo, kita-kita na lang sa trail. Your friends will surely love Mt. Pico De Loro.

      You’re welcome.

      1. Alright. Would you know Sir?

      2. Kenneth says:

I haven’t traveled on a Black Saturday yet but I guess they have buses going regularly everyday.

      3. Hindi naman siguro nagkakaubusan ng bus no? Concern namin baka wala ng masakyan sa dami rin ng nag uuwian from/to province sa South

      4. Kenneth says:

It is a Saturday I think okay na din na naman ata yun.

  4. Paulo says:

    Hi,

we are planning to travese pico de loro this 26th of april. question lang regarding sa transpo pag dating ng nasugbu. yung trike ba sa jump-off is available agad? i mean no need to text/advise in advance. nakabasa kasi ako ng blog na kailangan pa muna i arrange ang trike in advance sa nasugbu jump-off. Thanks in Advance! Great post BTW.

    1. Kenneth says:

There are drivers na nakapila na dun or I don’t know if we are just lucky. But may nakabantay dun na guard in case and I’m sure that he has his contacts if ever na wala. Yung samin, we didn’t arrange it beforehand. You’re welcome Paulo. And thanks for reading!

      1. Kate says:

Hi Mr. Bratpacker, thanks for your blog, it was so helpful. Ask ko Lang, if we are going to do the traverse, bale iba po ung starting point namin sa ending point? Tama po ba? Kasi we are planning to go to Mt. Pico on Saturday, September 13, then mag beach po kami after. Thanks a lot 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

        Hi Kate!

Thanks for reading! Kung traverse, oo, iba yung jump-off point nyo sa bababaan nyo. Jump off will be at Ternate, Cavite then yung baba at Nasugbu na.

For the distance, wala akong idea since I haven’t been to any of Nasugbu beaches. Pero sa binabaan namin going to Nasugbu proper, it was like 20 minutes na trike ride.

        Hope it helps. You’re welcome.

  5. ivy says:

Hi, do you have contact number ng DENR Reg office sa Pico? We plan to climb on April13, palm sunday and we heard close daw DENR before holyweek. Have you heard this kind of news? Or maybe contact numbers ng taga Pico (guides or drivers) para we could ask them. Thanks in advance!

    1. Kenneth says:

Yung babae na nagtitinda is the same woman who keeps the list of registrants. Guides are not required dn kaya I wasn’t able to get any contact details. But I think you can still go.

      1. ivy says:

Ok, salamat.

Pero supposed to be DENR first then the other registration. You’re welcome.

Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging climbers not to register at the DENR Station 🙂

  6. efren says:

good evening pwede ba umakyat sa saturday? april 19? baka kasi wala ung tao sa DENR di kami payagan umakyat? salamat sa info in advance 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

      Good day!

I honestly don’t have any idea if close po yung sa DENR that day.

  7. Super Boink says:

    Hi Bratpacker!

Nice blog here! Really helpful. I will be climbing Pico for the first time next week. Quite nervous here since me and my friends won’t be having a guide, though I have experienced hiking Batulao and according to others, mas mahirap sa Batulao. 😀 Hehe.

Can we hike anytime, any day we want? Thank you! 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks for reading Ma’am! It’s okay if you don’t have any guide with you. You can hike anytime any day you want, yung Holy Week lang sila nag close. Enjoy Pico De Loro with your friends! Can’t wait to hear about your experience there. 🙂

      1. Super Boink says:

And so we made it! It was so fun, though for me it was a bit more challenging than Mt Batulao, because I can’t get out of the bed the whole day after that due to body pain. 😀 hehe. Still, i will definitely visit Pico de Loro again and again! 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

Hiking a mountain is quite addicting. And I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Have you reached the Monolith? Hoping that I can trek with you guys in the future. For my scheduled climbs and travel plans, you can check it at https://www.facebook.com/pages/MrBratpacker/366890320071940

      3. Super Boink says:

You mean the Parrot’s Beak/Peak (ano ba talaga? Haha)? No. 😦 We only hiked up to Peak 1. Since I forced my parents to come trek with me, they forced me to not continue to Peak 2 in return. Lol.

Wow, great! Will visit your page tomorrow. Me and my friends are again planning to hike this coming July (if the weather permits). Since we will be with first timers, we plan to go to Mt. Manalmon. Yeah, hope you could trek with us! 🙂

      4. Kenneth says:

But it’s cool having your parents with you. Sana my parents are as game as yours. 😦

Sure, if I don’t have any plans I’ll go. Ang baba lang ng Manalmon, it only took us 45 minutes paakyat. Just shoot me a message on my FB Page. Thanks for the invite 🙂

  8. chengboiser says:

Love your post, very informative.. We’ll be climbing this weekend with a few friends who are first timers. How was the climb to the monolith? do we have to bring anything? This will be the first time that we’ll climb without a guide or a pro mountaineer with us.

    1. Kenneth says:

It was quite scary but that’s where the fun part is. If you live for adventure and thrill, you’ll love it. We brought with us a rope for it to be easier but it is still okay without it.

Enjoy! Can’t wait to hear your story 🙂

      1. chengboiser says:

Hmm just a rope will do? Well i showed them the monolith and their pretty excited about the 90 degree climb, hopefully the weather will be good.

Thanks for the help! Kudos to you and your blog 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

Yes, but there is also a rope available there. Just be cautious though. And yes the weather will be good!

You’re welcome chengboiser! Enjoy Pico De Loro 🙂

  9. Rachelle says:

Hi sir Kenneth, first time po ksi namin ittry mgclimb, anu po ba mga needs na dapat namin iprepare? and how much po ang fee sa pico? thankyou!

    1. Kenneth says:

Hello Ms. Rachelle! You can jog for a few days to prepare your body but sometimes there are first-time climbers like my friends who did not prepare at all. Just bring with you enough water or hydration, salt or banana in case you guys will suffer from leg cramps which hopefully won’t happen. And energy or chocolate bars that you can munch on along the way. Remember to have stopovers or quick breaks if di pa kaya, and climbing a mountain is not a race, take it slowly but surely and safely.

For the fees, I have listed them above and mura lang siya.

I can’t wait to hear your story about your first climb. Enjoy guys! Next time samahan ko kayo 🙂

      1. Rachelle says:

thank you sir! godbless, 🙂 ngworry lang kc q sa nbsa q ung fee sa tricycle 250/head is it real?

      2. Kenneth says:

You’re welcome Ms. Rachelle. You can always haggle, pero samin kasi we divided it into our group. 75php yung papunta tapos 120php pero sa Nasugbu kasi yun because nag traverse kami.

  10. Julianne Rose says:

Thank You sa blog mo! Your blog is super helpful 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks a lot for reading Julianne! 🙂

  11. julie says:

    nice blog by the way.
    regards,
    julie

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Julie,

If ever na may climb ako I can invite you though I also don’t have a group, sabit lang sa kung sino magyaya sakin. For my events and scheduled trips, you can check it on my FB page, just search for MrBratpacker.

Sa Pico, yes, pwede mag-isa or you can also do it in group. I suggest that you try it with a group first for you to check on when enough is enough for you or hanggang saan yung kaya mo. Being in a group, you’ll also be able to learn from the perspective of a group of people.

Thanks Julie. I’m hoping to see you conquering mountains soon 🙂

      Kind regards,
      Kenneth

  12. Totit says:

    Hello Sir!

Just want to ask what’s the most recommended time to start the hike in the morning. My wife and I are planning to climb this weekend, and we’re thinking of starting the hike at around 5:30AM. Do you think it’s safe to start this early? 🙂

    Thanks brother!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Sir!

Actually the earlier, the better so for you to avoid the long line in the Monolith. 5:30AM is good and yes I believe it is safe.

      You’re welcome Totit!

      1. Totit says:

Then we’re good to go! Thanks for the prompt answer brother! Looking forward on your new adventures! More power 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

I’m having some problems writing about my trips for now but sooner I know I’ll be able to write again. Thanks for reading Sir! Enjoy Pico De Loro and keep safe!

  13. Sir ask lng po bout sa pico traverse… may paliguan ba sa drop off? na try ko na mag pico kaso back track lng eh gusto ko sana mag traverse ….

    1. Kenneth says:

Wala Sir. Yung sa drop-off kasi pag nag traverse parang headquarters sya.

  14. esterrificgen says:

hi there, I’ve been planning to go here alone coz my friends are not that adventurous as I am. Is there a group there I can join with? or if I go there alone, I’ll hike it alone too? thanks!

and oh, is there a bus from Cubao that I can ride directly to Sapang? thank you 😉

    1. Kenneth says:

Based on what I know lahat ng terminal pa Cavite e nasa South siya. And if you plan to go there alone, pwede namang sumali ka na lang sa ibang groups or you can also do it alone yun nga lang mas malaki yung risk given na may nakakalito na portion yung trail.

You can join us on our future treks too if you want, I post all of my scheduled trips on my Facebook page. 🙂

      You’re welcome esterrificgen

  15. chelle says:

hello po may plano po kameng pumunta bukas pwede namang parang napadaan ka lang noh ? wala naman sigurong reservation or what? thanks

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes. Wala pong reservations prior sa pag akyat kahit saang bundok. You’re welcome chelle. Have a safe trek.

  16. john says:

Hi.nice blog po.tanung q lng po kung madali lng ba or hindi po ba nakakaligaw yung trail pag mag traverse po to nasugbo?at kung may masasakyan po dun after.balak po namin kasi madaanan yung kaybiang tunnel?2 lang po pala kmi ng gf ko.thanxs a lot

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi John, thanks for reading. Enjoy.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to avail it due to conflict of schedule. If you’re interested, just text me (09175047932) and we’ll be happy to give it to you at a discounted price. Two vouchers available. Reservation is until September 15, 2014 and travel dates until December 14, 2014 (weekends only). Thanks!😃

  18. benjie says:

where do we get a guide to go up pico? can you refer me to one? contact details please. thanks.

    1. Kenneth says:

There were no guides available when we went there and i think you don’t need one. There are stations or landmarks that will tell you that you are in the right path. The one that is confusing in my oexperience is the traverse so if you dont plan to do the traverse there is no need for a guide 🙂

tanong ko lang dun ba sa denr station ang way or starting point going to pico de loro. kung di kami mag traverse sa denr din kami exit/?

    1. Kenneth says:

Dun lang registration then walking distance ang jump-off point mula doon.

good day sir. ask ko lang po. pagdating namin sa ternate terminal may masasakyan bang trike na good for 2 only? and how much will it cost to get to DENR station? Is the fare just the same when going back to ternate terminal? I’m planning to bring my wife there. Thanks in advance sir kenneth.

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes meron Sir Drew! It was 75 php per person pero tatlo kami nun. It is the same at mas maganda pag kunin nyo na contact nung trike para panigurado na dn na pagbaba nyo may naghihintay na.

  21. Alex says:

Hi there, can we take car going to DENR? And park it there?

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes Alex. I just dont know if they charge for parking and of how much is it.

    1. Kenneth says:

I guess there are those dn naman na umaakyat ng weekdays kasi pag weekend jampacked minsan. If you are concern about your safety, merong tindahan na maliit dun sa campsite which is being run by a local, pwede kayo mag pitch ng tent nyo malapit dun 🙂

      1. john says:

Thanks sir.yes natatakot ksi yung gf ko kung kmi lng.lagi ba nandun yung nagtitinda?

      2. Kenneth says:

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks for reading Tere! Natutuwa kasi akong sumagot sa mga comments and respect na lang din siguro for the person who took the time to read what Ive written kaya I feel obliged to respond. Usually di ganun karami ang nagoovernight sa Pico since okay naman sya for a dayhike. Nun pagpunta namin, around 3 groups lang ata yung andun. Taking into consideration dn na this week kayo at maulan, I think there is a greater chance na meron at meron yun 🙂

  26. tere says:

To be sure, you can get the contact number na lang din nung nasa registration.

You’re welcome Tere and hopefully okay ang weather sa akyat nyo. Cge, you can also check my FB page: MrBratpacker. Thank you din 🙂

      Hi J,

Yes, the fees listed here is per person. Walang bus at that part of Nasugbu, only tricycles. 🙂

      1. J says:

        Thanks for the info sir!

      2. Kenneth says:

        You’re welcome J.

  28. Mack says:

Hi Mr. BratPacker napaka informative po nitong ginawa niyo, anyway i have one quick question kasi tom. we planned to go Dayhike sa Pico De Loro, my question is sa trail po ba madadaanan talaga namin yung falls? Yun po kasi ang pinaka Sidetrip namin if ever. Hope na masagot niyo po. TIA sir.

    1. Kenneth says:

Pag Nasugbu trail kayo or pag mag traverse kayo madadaanan nyo sya 🙂

  29. Edward says:

Bro bratpacker! Nice blog! Ask ko lang kung mag hike kayo this november 1st week or 2nd week. Me and my friends are planning to hike pico. Saka anong klaseng rope pala dinala nyo for the Monolith? May napigtas na daw ganon. Pano nyo kinabit yung rope? Sorry bro, first timer here.

    1. Kenneth says:

We had a mountaineering / climbing rope pero sa pagtawid sya namin ginamit. On our way up to the monolith we mostly rely on rocks and the people in our group kaya kelangan may malakas kayong kasama.

  30. Sarita Tagle says:

I’m so happy i found this! Plano namin to go but we don’t have a lot of time, we plan to go on the 28th of Oct. Kailan ba ng mga permits to shoot with a small camera or go pro? Pang music video for our friend’s save the date!

    1. Kenneth says:

No need for permits. Just pay the registration and you are good to go. Enjoy! 🙂

  31. Kitel Juanitez says:

Hi Bro! Plan ko sana akyat this week. Sa 29. Solo climber lang ako. Pag dating ko ba dun sa jump off point may mga pwedeng mag guide or do you think may mga makakasabay ako? 🙂 Salamat in advance!

    1. Kenneth says:

Most likely may makakasabay ka 🙂

      1. Kitel Juanitez says:

Thanks Bro! I’ll check your site once in a while for future trips! God Bless! 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

Sure it is. Okay dn yun at least you’ll meet new friends . For updates about my future trips, you can also check my FB page. By the way, I have scheduled a climb in Mt. Maculot this November, you might be interested. Details are in my page 🙂

  32. Austin says:

Hi sir! Pwede ba sumabit sa upcoming trip nyo sa Mt. Maculot? Thanks! I don’t have a group too for hiking sabit sabit lang din 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Sure Austin! It is for everyone though I would want to limit the number of joiners. Pa – RSVP na lang sa event 🙂

  35. Rain says:

    Hi Kenneth,

Aakyat kba ng Nov. 21, I’m planning to go there. Is it possible to meet you there ? 🙂 txt me 09289074949

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Rain!

Unfortunately I do have work on weekdays tapos pag may akyat ako, scheduled siya. For my future climbs, I post it on my Facebook page.

  36. Nikki says:

My friends and I will be climbing on Dec. 6, anybody going there also?

  37. Dan Brian says:

chief ano sakyan namin at san kami baba? bus going to nasugbu ba? yung babaan saan?

    1. Kenneth says:

Take a bus bound to Ternate, Cavite at the South Bus Station at Coastal Mall. Upon arrival at the Ternate Terminal in Sapang, Ternate take a trike to the DENR Station.

  38. Lee says:

hi , open kaya this christmas, me and my husband are planning to hike mt pico de loro

    1. Kenneth says:

I guess it is. As far as I know, wala naman po atang nag ko-close na mountain tuwing holiday. Enjoy po. Advance Merry Christmas 🙂

  39. Lucky says:

Hello! Your blog is very informative! 🙂 Just like to ask if, do we need to climb monolith to be able for us to descend via nasugbu? Thank you! 🙂 God bless.

    1. Kenneth says:

No, climbing the monolith is optional. You can trek your way down to Nasugbu without having to climb the Parrot’s beak. God bless as well Lucky and enjoy the climb! 🙂

  40. RUsh says:

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes, it is (base on my opinion since it is a closed space).

  41. RUsh says:

    ok po thnx so much

  42. Rain says:

Sino pwede jan. Mag Climb kami January 15, 2015

  43. cathmeimfallhen says:

Thanks

    1. Kenneth says:

Since andun kna na dn naman, I think it’s a good thing to try na dn as well. Only you can convince yourself but for me, climbing the Monolith is one way to prove to yourself that you can. Take risks sometimes and you’ll be surprised of the rewards after 🙂

If you decided to climb the Monolith, be careful lang 🙂

  44. cathmeimfallhen says:

Sir kaya po ba kahit beginner? Bakit sa picture po eh parang wala akong makitang pwedeng daanan sa beak ? hehe and yung rope do we need to bring our own po ?

    1. Kenneth says:

Kaya po siya. Meron, may part that you will have to climb at sa rope, you can bring your own para mas safe.

  45. jay says:

hello, newbie here.. magdadala k sarili rope? panu yun san itatlai yung lubid or sinu magtatali kung dala dala mo xia?

    1. Kenneth says:

It is optional for those na gustong umakyat ng Monolith for safety na lang din. Kelangan meron at least isang seasoned mountaineer sa inyo na mag le-lead pero you can do it dn naman. Slowly but surely na lang 🙂

  46. Ailyn Chavez says:

    Hello Sir!,
I am about to climb Mt.Pico de Loro tomorrow at sobrang nakatulong tong blog mo sakin. Gustong gusto ko maakyat yung monolith kaso I dont have proper footwear. I climbed Mt.Batulao using a pair of running shoes and I will also climb Mt. Pico de Loro with that same running shoes :(.Sana maakyat ko yung monolith! hihi. Hope I can climb with you soon. 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

It is not about the shoes that you wear. Kung gusto mo, magagawan ng paraan yan 🙂 My friend also climbed the Monolith with his rubber shoes and he was able to make it.

Sure! Hoping to join you in one of your climbs. Pag may akyat ako, everyone is free to join. You can check for my events sa FB page ko. Thanks Ailyn.

      1. Ailyn Chavez says:

hooray!

      2. Kenneth says:

Congrats! Send a picture and your experience through my page, lagay ko dun 🙂

  47. Ailyn Chavez says:

Salamat 🙂

  48. Bentong says:

May New Trail na po ung Mt. Pico de Loro, it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

      Thanks for the update Sir!

  49. hariette23 says:

Hi Sir. Your blog is so helpful. I’m going to Mt. Pico next Saturday alone. I wonder if it’s not dangerous for me to go there by myself. And I also want to climb the monolith. Do we use rope to climb up? Is it possible to see the sunset or sunrise? And if I am from Molino Cavite, do I still have to go to Coastal Mall? And where is that Coastal Mall located? I am sorry for so many questions. And thank you in advance.

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Hariette! Thanks for dropping by at my blog. First, yes it is safe. I know a friend who was able to reach the summit and the monolith alone. And don’t you worry for I guarantee that you will find friends along the trail. Yes, a rope is needed to help you. If you have one much better, if you dont, be extra cautious. Third, sunset and sunrise is possible depending on the clearing. Lastly, unfortunately I do not know the way to Ternate from Molino. You dont have to catch a bus at Coastal Mall, if you know the route of buses plying Ternate.

  50. Evan says:

    Hi Kenneth!

May area ba dun na pwedeng magcamp? Kung pwede, safe ba magcamping dun?

    Thanks.

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Evan!

Yes, there is a camping site and it is safe 🙂

      1. Azure says:

      2. Kenneth says:

As per the new rules, it states that “No overnight stay in Camp Site 2.” Overnight coukd be done srill but in Basecamp1.

  51. DAN says:

hello Mr. bratpacker, your blog is very informative, helpful esp. to newbie like us.. i have only one question- we are group of mc riders planning to hike this coming holy thursday – malaki po ba ang parking area at safe po kaya kung iiwanan overnight?

    1. Kenneth says:

Malaki ang space for parking but I have no idea if it is safe as I never tried to use it. Wala naman atang negative news about dun.

      Thanks for reading Dan.

      1. DAN says:

thank you Kenneth, we’d just been there last april 2, ok naman ang mga DENR officers esp.
God bless!!!

      2. Kenneth says:

Nice to know that I’ve been of help to you and your group. Thanks for reading my blog and have an adventurous year ahead.

You may follow me as well on my FB page: MrBratpacker. Thanks!

  52. Ced Rick says:

Thanks

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Sir, I have no idea if it is open but last year it was.

  53. hi. hello there.. ask ko lang po kung mga ilang minutes from ternate term hanggang denr?? lakarin ko nalang sana hanggang dun.. mahal ata arkila…=D

    1. Kenneth says:

Malayo po siya as far as I can remember. Trike po talaga kelangan. Baka may makakasabay naman po kayo.

  54. DAN says:

kagagaling lang namin last Jan 2, from ternate to pico entrance(DENR) about 9km+ , nakamotor kami , kinuha lang namin more or less 10 minutes, kung lalakarin mo, kayang kaya, esp. kung nagmamarathon ka, makukuha mo ng 60min.+

    1. Kenneth says:

      Thanks for the info Dan.

  55. Jing jing says:

hi, were first timers and planning to conquer Mt. Pico..by May 9 2015. =)

    1. Kenneth says:

It is just less than 1500 🙂

  56. Chennee says:

Hi Sir, good day!
    1. May na-encounter o nakita po ba kayong snakes along the trail?
    2. Safe po ba don pag gabi Sir? May makukuhanan po ba kaming water don?
    4. Magkano po ang bayad sa tourguide? Negotiable po ba yon?
    5. Magkano po estimated expenses?
    6. Meron po ba kayong updated itinerary for my reference?

Thank you & Have a nice day ahead! 🙂 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

      1. We did not see any snakes along the trail .
      2. As far as I know, it is safe. There is no water source, you must bring your own. 3. I don’t know if it is possible na maligo sa DENR office.
      4. No idea with the guide fee but based on experience it is around 500 per group or maybe less.
      5. Estimated expenses is already stated in my blog but it is based on our experience.
      6. What I have here is the itinerary we used.

You’re welcome. Have a nice day as well Chennee.

  57. Liz says:

Hi!

    1. Kenneth says:

Kaya naman po sya may mga parts lang na pataas talaga pero you can do it slowly naman po. You can park your car at the DENR station, d ko lang alam if there’s a fee for that.

  58. clyde says:

Sir gud eve po.plan po sana namin mag climb sa mt.pico de loro this coming may 31,2015 ask ko lang po kung may available po bang guide dun katulad sa mt.batulao and how much po kaya?thank you po

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes there is but for the fee, wala akong idea :/

  59. percival platon says:

good pm sir kenneth ask ko lang kung may booking ba ito sa mga travel and tour o commute lang talaga? medyo malayo kasi panggagalingan namin so kailangan namin ng tutulugan. tnx in advance sir!

    1. Kenneth says:

May mga travel agencies na nagooffer po ng tour to Pico De Loro pero if you want to save, much better na commute. At base on what I know, bawal na po ata mag overnight sa Pico.

  60. michael says:

Sir kenneth i am planning to go pico with my wife and 2 daughter aged 11 an 8 yr old. do you think kaya nila mag traverse. di b talaga ganun kahirap ang pico? tried ko n kasi umakyat 4 times n din gusto ko ma experience din nila.

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Michael! Sorry for the late response as I was on a long weekend staycation. For me, kaya. Actually for me, the traverse is much easier than the hike to the summit.

  61. Krizzia Agbay says:

    Hi,

Is there a guide for the new trail in DENR? Were planning to climb on June 27.

    thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

I believe there are available guides there but actually the trail is visible that there is really no need for a guide.

  62. Aiko says:

    Hi kenneth,

Yung tricycle fare na 75pesos, per head ba yun or per tricycle?

    Thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Per head Ma’am.

  63. Palamigs says:

Hi and Good morning Sir. God bless Sir!

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks for reading Sir!

  64. norbz says:

from ternate terminal sasakay nlng po ng trike papuntang DENR?? it will be my first hike and my friend saying na sa pico de loro daw muna ako for minor hike before mag pulag .. and I always do solo travels since mahirap magyakag .. and thx sa suggestion .. from pico de loro to Puerto Azul for overnight .. mapapadala ako ng tent xD

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes Sir, trike lang. Enjoy your first hike 🙂

  65. Jepee Buen says:

    1. Kenneth says:

Sorry for the late response as i was sick. Based on what i know, sa campsite 2 yung d pwede.

  66. rg says:

    1. Kenneth says:

It actually depends on the mountaineers na. Know when it’s safe to climb dn. Postpone nyo na lang if masama pa dn panahon.

  68. Anna says:

Hi Kenneth! Just came across your blog as I was googling about the Mt. Pico de Loro hike 🙂 Never been hiking so please excuse the clueless questions. So here it goes – do we need to schedule a hike or call the DENR office prior to our hike? 🙂 I’ll be forever grateful for any piece of advice you can offer. Thank you!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hello Anna,

No need to contact the DENR prior to going there. You can just head directly to Pico De Loro and when you get there, just settle the registration fee.

For the tip, pack light and always bring water with you. When I was starting, I always bring me with me trail food (energy bars / chocolate bars and candies like jelly ace). Also, take it slow, take some rests if you need to. Always remember that trekking is not a race. Enjoy Anna!

  69. REE says:

    Hi Kenneth,

My friends and I are planning to go to Pico de Loro on September. All of us have experienced hiking na but that was a year ago pa. I just want to ask kung marami bang matarik na trail aside from the monolith? And which is more easier to climb, Pico de Loro or Batulao?

    1. Kenneth says:

Yung sa comparison, I cannot really say which is more easier to climb since magkaiba talaga sila. Go for Pico na lang if na plan nyo na sya. Pack light and bring water with you guys na lang.

  70. Hi! akyat kami Pico De Loro tomorrow kasama yung friend ko na first timer umakyat ng bundok. and gusto namin makaakyat ng monolith, question badly needed ba talaga yung rope? and nabasa ko kasi yung about shoes, delikado ba pag nakarubber? tapos we would like to try yung traverse, ok lang kaya? saka dba maulan dun ngayon? thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Maricar, there is a rope available pero wag pakampante dun. You can bring one for your own safety. Hindi naman ganun ka delikado pag naka rubber shoes but if you would want to trek, I suggest you invest on proper gears. Sa traverse, yes, kaya sya 🙂

      1. Alex Manocdoc says:

Good day sir.. we’re from Davao city and planning to climb Pico de Loro this coming November, just wanna ask if it is possible to settle all documents w/in the day of climb, i mean like other mountains we encountered it takes months for us to arranged our permit.. For us to prepare the said documents if necessary.. thanks sir

      2. Kenneth says:

You can do walk-in here Sir. No need to fix some papers or documents.

  71. Thorn says:

    1. Kenneth says:

I have no idea Sir if pwede pa mag overnight dun and with regards dn sa hot water.

  72. Regie says:

    Hi sir,
We went to Pico last June this yr & overnight camping was not allowed for the mean time by that time. Do you have any idea if overnight camping is now allowed? Also, do you have contact @ pico wherein I can reach & confirm things about overnight camping. Thanks 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Not allowed pa dn siya Regie. I think matagal pa bago mag release ng bagong advisory but for now let’s follow the rules.

  73. Novie says:

hello. Open ba ang registration office nila duing regular holidays? Like sa friday? 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

As far as I know, they are open.

  74. Abbey says:

Hi Sir! Just wanted to ask kung kelangan pa ba ng mga sort of orientation prior to climb?

    1. Kenneth says:

No orientation needed for Pico.

  75. Jureco Go says:

kenneth open p b ung waterfalls s pico, my last climb was last year p ksi.. tnx in advance!! Godbless

    1. Kenneth says:

Depende po ata sa season, the time we went there tuyot po sya.

    1. Kenneth says:

      Yung guide is not mandatory.

  78. rebya says:

I’m going there tomorrow with friends! Love your photos. I hope it still looks the same. Your article is a great help. Thank you! 😁

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks Rebya. Enjoy Pico De Loro.

      1. Lance Padilla says:

Sir Kenneth, how do we get there from Cavitex using a Car? malapit lang din ba sa resort yan?

      2. Kenneth says:

Hi Lance, no idea if by private transportation. You can ask directions going to Magallanes or Ternate, Cavite. May mga beach na malapit din dun. Pico De Loro Cove is one.

  79. Izzy says:

Hello 😀 Is payment for a guide required to traverse Pico De Loro? I’ts going to be my first time there and I want to be as financially ready as I can be.

    1. Kenneth says:

As far as I know, traverse is not allowed for the mean time Izzy but if it is, yes there will be a payment for it.

  80. Jon says:

    Hi Sir Kenneth,

Plan naming umakyat this weekend with traverse to Nasugbu. Second time ko na sir umakyat pero first time naming ita-try and traverse. Ask ko lang sir:

    1. May updates po ba kayo kung allowed pa mag-traverse.
    2. Ok po ba sa begineers and first time traversers ung trail pababa? Concern ko lang po kasi is, since di na kami maga-guide, baka maraming forks / ligaw sa traverse trail.

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Jon, latest update ko is bawal daw yung traverse for the mean time and if it is allowed, may additional fee yun

      1. Jon says:

        Sir Kenneth,

Ok Sir. Since makulit ako, we will try to negotiate / makatawad siguro kung pwede man. Salamat Sir. See you on the Outside.

  81. Jon says:

    Sir Kenneth,

    1. Kenneth says:

Noong pagbaba namin before, oo may mga naghahantay na dun.

      1. Jon says:

        Sir Kenneth,

        Salamat Sir.

Sana makatraverse kami. Babalikan ko itong post nyo for any updates, just in case.

  82. jeiza says:

Hi Sir! Thanks for the useful tips and information regarding your trip. I’ll try my luck on December 21. Goin’ solo ^_^ Sana may makasabay ako along the way as it will be my first time to trek alone.

    1. Kenneth says:

      Good luck Jeiza. Enjoy Pico.

    1. Kenneth says:

May nagbabantay po dun not necessarily dapat open yung DENR. May logbook for registration, pwede po.

  84. jeeia tuason says:

can my 11 year old brother come at the hike?

    1. Kenneth says:

If you’re asking if an 11-year old can handle the trail of Mt. Pico De Loro, then it is a yes.

  85. jeeia tuason says:

is there an age requirement for the climb? my 11 year old brother wants to come

    1. Kenneth says:

      No age requirement 🙂

  86. Patrick says:

hi, pwede po bang umakyat ng dec. 26 2015.?

  87. Anna says:

Hi! This is a big help for those planning to climb Pico for the first time!

Do you happen to know if there’s any place where we can leave our things before climbing the mountain? We’re going to stay at Tagaytay pa kasi after climbing Pico de Loro so we’ll probably bring more than the usual. 😦 When we climbed Mt. Maculot (Lemery, Batangas), we found a carinderia with a very nice owner who allowed us to leave our things at her house. I was just wondering if there’s anything like that in Pico de Loro.

We could leave our things at a mall but as far as my research goes, wala yatang malapit na mall sa DENR site mismo. (Or a place that offers lockers for your things) 😦 Hope you could help! And thanks a lot for this blog post!

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Anna, I don’t know if the person in charge at the registration area will let you leave your things there but you can ask. I wasn’t able to check if there are nearby houses at the jump-off point.

  88. Ghelai says:

Hi 🙂 I have a quick question. Plan po kasi namin magovernight sa Pico de Loro since we wanted to conquer Mt. Maculot too the following day. May rentahan po ba ng tent don or we really need to bring one? Please let me know. Thank you!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Ghelai,

Camping is not allowed in Pico. If you want, you can summit Maculot first and do the overnight there before you go to Pico.

  89. christian chua says:

Sir ask ko lang kung pwede umakyat ng 12am in the morning sa pico?kasi plan namin ng mga friends ko na after work kami umakyat.budget time lang kasi kami .lahat na may work.salamat

    1. Kenneth says:

Alam ko meron nag na-night trek dun.

  90. Ludwyg says:

Sir ask ko lang if as of today same way pa rin po ba papunta dun. I’m planning to go there this Monday 2-8-16 alone? what if mangagaling ako sa North EDSA MRT Station ano best way papunta dun? And all I have are the informations na nakuha ko dito sa blog mo. Thanx

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes same pa dn po. You can follow the itinerary posted here in the blog 🙂

  91. Ludwyg says:

Hi Mam I’m going there alone this February 8. This is my first time to hike. Any advice for a newbie like me? Any one out there who want to came along? Salamat

  92. Ludwyg says:

  93. vera says:

Hi. i would like to ask where can we park if we’re gonna ride private vehicles going there?

  94. Michelle says:

Hello po sir! Sobrang helpful po ng post niyo. I’m planning to hike po kasi ng solo since wala akong maaya. Haha. And first timer din. Safe po ba kahit walang guide? May nagsabi kasi sakin dati na “no guide, no hike” daw. Saka any advice po on what to bring or may specific clothes or shoes po ba to wear when hiking? Thank you so much po!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Michelle,

You can hike even without a guide. There will be hikers along the trail dn naman. What to bring? At least 2 litres of water, a snack bar or your trail food then lunch. Advice? Climb at your own pace and trek with your heart.

For clothing, I suggest you wear something to cover your legs and arms since it could get a bit hot at the monolith or summit.

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Malou, Yes you can trek back to Ternate. And I don’t have any idea about fees in Puerto Azul.

  96. Kristen says:

Hi is there a contact number sa DENR station? I plan to hike with my dog this July 2016. We will park at DENR station but our descent is doon sa beach side. Is trike accessible from the beach going back to DENR station?

    1. Kenneth says:

Hi Kristen, unfortunately I don’t have their number and I don’t have any idea about the trail going down the beach side for your descent.

  98. AJ says:

Hi, SIr Kenneth! My friends and I are planning to climb Pico next week. Kaso we’re not sure on how to get there. We’re from Carmona Cavite na po kasi and from all our researches, sa Coastal Mall po yung nababasa namin na may bus terminal to Ternate. Do you have any idea if meron din pong PUV na papuntang Ternate from Carmona? Or maybe Dasmarinas?

    1. Kenneth says:

      No idea AJ. Sorry.

    2. warren says:

If your coming from carmona. You can actually start your trip in Robinsons dasmarinas cavite. Ride bus going to trece marterez cavite and drop at jollibee trece thats near bdo trece. From there, ride a jeep going to Tanza and drop off at puregold tanza. At Puregold tanza you can ride bus there going to ternate cavite. You can then follow your regular trip itinerary. Good luck

  99. aj says:

Sir open po ba ang pico de loro sa holy week like thurs and friday and close na po yung monolith diba po?

    1. Kenneth says:

I think so. Last year, there were climbers na umakyat during Holy Week. And yes, close na po yung Monolith.

Hi, this is like the most useful blog ever! But again, I’m very anxious…I plan to traverse to Nasugbu with my sister, I just want to know if it takes longer and gaano ka confusing ang path and do you ALWAYS turn right like they say? Is it my right or the fork’s right? If we do get lost, how do we get back? Planning to hike this thursday, March 24. Your reply will be be very much appreciated, thank you! 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Hello! It took us around 2 hours and a half for the descent. Na-confuse lang kami one time dun sa trail pababa ng Nasugbu but it is visible dn naman. I am not that expert when it comes to direction to be honest, when we trek and if I’m the head, I don’t know pero sometimes, the trail will show the way naman. For you not to be anxious, what I can suggest is for you to join groups who will be traversing to Nasugbu as well, you will meet a lot of groups in there for sure. If you’d get lost. Stay where you are and try to remember the trail kung san ka nanggaling. It will also be a big help if you have a whistle with you. But I doubt that you’ll get lost in Pico.

      Have a safe climb!

      1. mzss says:

Thank you!!! On my way to the terminal right now to conquer that mountain! :))

      2. Kenneth says:

        Goodluck! 🙂

  102. Galvez Gina says:

Hoping ths blog is still working! Hi sir just wanna ask if we need a tour guide pba sa pag akyat sa mt.Piko and (how much) and are they still open even sunday? Were planning to go there this coming weekend. your feedback will help a lot. thank you please help us! God Bless 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Gina,

Sorry for the late response 😦

It will be closed this October and guides are available at the jump off but if you ask me, it is better that you’ll do it yourself since visible naman ang trail. I am not just sure with the fee.
