Borawan vs. Dampalitan vs. Puting Buhangin

Quezon, particularly in Padre Burgos is the home of this three lovely beaches namely Borawan, Dampalitan and Puting Buhangin. If so happen that you are torn among the three or if you are looking for where the best beach to camp is, where the best beach to swim or just bum around or where among the three is the cheapest option, here is a blow by blow account based on my experience.

Puting Buhangin’s coastline

Distance.

:Note that you could charter your way to the three beaches depending on the boat rental or your package.

Borawan as seen from our boat
Borawan as seen from our boat

Borawan, named after Boracay and Palawan because of its almost-fine white sand and limestone formation is the nearest of the three while Puting Buhangin is the farthest, boat ride will take you around 15-20 minutes.

Attraction.

Sunset in Dampalitan
Sunset in Dampalitan

With its wide stretch of sand, Dampalitan makes it the perfect camping ground. Though its sand may not be that fine, the location is perfect for sunset lovers. Dampalitan is like Anawangin Cove in Zambales, part of it were covered in Pine trees and other trees alike. Dampalitan is also the perfect venue if you wish to have some bonfire at night.

the way to the cave

Puting Buhangin on the other hand, boasts its main attraction – the Kwebang Lampas, which name speaks for itself, a cave you can pass on both ends. Getting in there is just a bit of a hassle since you need to pass on some jagged rocks or swim your way to a seafloor which is also full of stones.

to jump or not to jump that is the question
to jump or not to jump that is the question

And Borawan, my favorite of all the three beaches because of its scenic view and because among the three, it is the well-maintained and well-managed. There, you can rent a volleyball and play all day long. You can climb rocks and jump off a cliff. With its signature Nipa Huts and the beauty of the island itself, you won’t get tired of doing a whole lot of selfies and jumpshots and group shots etc.

:There is no electricity in the three beaches but the management in Borawan is already planning to have one with the use of Solar panels. According to the caretaker, a hotel and restaurant establishment will also soon rise on the other side of the island which they call as Station 3. There will also be a zip line and other activities that everyone can enjoy.

rates at Borawan Island plus the contact info

Price.

Based on the posted banner at the docking area, a trip to Borawan alone costs 800 php. For both, Borawan and Dampalitan, 1,200 php and for Borawan, Dampalitan and Puting Buhangin, it costs 1,800 php.  You can contact Kuya Nino at 09094001022 or 09151067594.

Puting Buhangin rates:

Entrance:  80 php and an additional 80 php if you plan to stay overnight.  A tent that is good for 2 person costs 300-400 php and for 4 person, it costs, 500 php. So better if you bring your own.

Dampalitan rates:

Entrance: 20 php and an additional 100 per tent if you have one. For the water, the one that you can use for shower, a container costs 40 php.

: Take note though that the payment is only optional. You can just give a donation and not pay for the entrance and the tent.

Borawan rates:

Entrance of 80 php and if you want to rent a tent, it would be for 500 php but if you have one you only need to pay 200 php.

well-managed comfort and shower rooms + it's clean
well-managed comfort and shower rooms in Borawan + it’s clean

Comfort room and Shower rooms.

Borawan has the cleanest comfort and shower rooms. And the water that they are using comes from a spring. It has a total of two comfort rooms and two shower rooms plus the additional two shower rod outside.

Dampalitan and Puting Buhangin also have comfort and shower rooms though they are not that clean compared to what Borawan has.

by the way, thanks to Kuya Nino and his colleagues for the safe ride
leaving the island with a special shout out to Kuya Nino and friends for a safe ride

If you plan to visit the three beaches, I suggest you take Dampalitan – Puting Buhangin – Dampalitan – Borawan. Just like in our case, we setup our tents in Dampalitan, then traveled to Puting Buhangin back to Dampalitan where we stayed overnight and for the second day, we went to Borawan then back to the mainland of Quezon.

  2. I particularly like the sunset view from Dampalitan… 🙂

    San ba next trip?

    1. Kenneth says:

Dampalitan has the best spot for sunset lovers. Mountaineering naman Sir? Or yung Seven Lakes of Laguna?

  3. gelaikuting says:

    lahat gusto ko! 🙂
    Till our next trip…

    1. Kenneth says:

My personal favorite is Borawan but yes, the three beaches has their own beauty.

      Where to next? Hehe

  4. Hi there would you mind letting me know which hosting company you’re using?
I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different browsers and
I must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you recommend a good web hosting provider at a fair price?
    Many thanks, I appreciate it!

    1. Kenneth says:

Sir, this is a free web hosting service by WordPress.

  5. Sony Fugaban says:

You showed a different side of this place. So different, in a good way of course, that I had to review the pictures just to make sure.

    1. Kenneth says:

The photos were really taken in Borawan, Dampalitan and Puting Buhangin. And part of helping the tourism industry, I always make sure to show the good side of the places I’ve been to.

      1. Sony Fugaban says:

I’m for the last: Puting Buhangin.

      2. Kenneth says:

Why choose one if you can visit them all but Puting Buhangin is also a good choice for those who are fond of caves 🙂

      3. Sony Fugaban says:

I’m in the Middle East at this point. I’ll try to visit the other two when I have the chance. Probably in April or May next year.

  6. karen says:

Hello, is there a place where you can snorkle?

    1. Kenneth says:

None that I know. No offer for snorkeling and there were no equipments for it.

  7. louise says:

pwede po ba mag day trip lang and to visit all 3 beaches?

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes Louise, you can. But you will only get to spend like an hour each and it will surely make you regret. If that’s the case you can head to Puting Buhangin first, which is the farthest (30 min ride) then Borawan and Dampalitan for the sunset.

      Thanks for reading 🙂

      1. louise says:

oh..but if you were to choose one, which of the 3 would u recommend?

      2. Kenneth says:

If you want a beautiful sunset – Dampalitan. If you want to do something else aside from swimming and beach bumming – caving let’s say there’s Puting Buhangin. But if you want a close to fine white sand and picturesque view head to Borawan.

If I were to choose of the three, I’ll go for Borawan 🙂

  12. Angel says:

May narerent po bang tents sa dampalitan? safe ba if dun magstay overnight? Thanks 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

The area is safe and for the tents, you can ask your boat guide if they have something for rent. You can contact Ate Vanessa at 09151067594. Alam ko kasi sa Borawan lang may tents for rent and I’m not that sure with Dampalitan.

You’re welcome Angel! Enjoy Dampalitan and hope you get to travel to Borawan and Puting Buhangin as well.

  13. Mowty says:

Hey there! When it comes to drinking water, do they have it at Dampalitan and Borawan? Thank you! Btw, nice blog! Good job! God bless!

    1. Kenneth says:

Actually, none. You’ll have to bring your own water. But you can buy at Basiao Market, few meters from the junction where you will be dropped off.

Thanks Mowty! God bless you as well 🙂

  14. Mowty says:

And also, how much was the boat ride from the mainland to Dampalitan? Is it included in 1800? Thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes, the 1800 fee includes a trip to the three beaches.
      You’re welcome again.

  15. Mhia Malang says:

how much would it cost for a 1 person travelling to the 3 beaches mentioned? let say 3 days 2 nights ..

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Ms. Mia,

All the rates are posted on the blog already and if you’re asking for an estimated amount, I honestly don’t have any idea for it will depend on your meal. The rest are already fixed.

  16. Kharen says:

Is it safe if may kasamang baby (1year old)?

    1. Kenneth says:

The waves are not that big if that’s what you are pertaining to. Except for the one going to Puting Buhanging kasi minsan it could get a bit bumpy.

  17. Hello po. there are blogs about possible presence of box jellyfish and spawns of sea urchins, totoo po? And safe ba ang swimming?

    1. Kenneth says:

We encountered a jellyfish at Puting Buhangin and yes, there’s this season wherein swarm of jellyfish flock the area. For sea urchins, we found one in the far side of Borawan.

      1. Anong season kaya?Andun po kasi kami bukas

      2. Kenneth says:

I’ve heard some time in March.

  18. tammy says:

Hello po. We are planning to go there this coming may. Just want to ask if may diy po kami, pano po ang food? May mabbilhan po ba dun?

    Thanks.

    1. Kenneth says:

What we did is nagluto na kami for our lunch at dinala na lang namin dun and for our dinner, dun kami nag luto. Nagdala lang kami ng cook set and stove (yung ginagamit sa pamumundok). May market sa before sa junction, walking distance from the block kung san kayo magpapababa sa bus. Pwede kayong bumili dun at iluto na lang sa beach or may mga karinderya’s din naman dun if you guys are okay with it.

      You’re welcome Tammy!

  19. Ailyn Chavez says:

Hello po, nice blog sir. Question lang po, mejo naconfuse lang.nakita ko po sa rates ng borawan 700 ang small cottage and additional 400 pag overnight and you mentioned po na 500 ang rent sa tent. Pwede po kaya na wag na kaming mag-avail nung cottage since may tent na?

    Thanks po in advance 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Hindi mandatory ang cottage. When we went there naglatag lang kami. If you plan to go overnight, you can just pay for the rental of the tent then the overnight fee.

      You’re welcome Ms. Ailyn.

      1. Ailyn Chavez says:

Hi, kagagaling lang namin sa 3 islands na to last holy week and may nakuha kaming package from Sir ron. Highly recommended kasi sya ng iba naming friends na nakabisita na rin doon and I must say sulit talaga yung package. Sya nag arrange ng island hopping namin kasama na rin ang food so pag eenjoy nalang talaga ang inintindi namin.Very accommodating din sya. Ito yung contact number nya if ever interested kayo 09496362087.

    2. Hi maam Ailyn magkano po lahat expense dun kay sir ron?i mean the package po?

      1. Kenneth says:

If ever na di makareply si Ms. Ailyn, you can contact Sir Ron directly at: 09496362087.

      2. Ailyn Chavez says:

  20. You’ve provided great tips here. Thanks! I am actually thinking of hitting Borawan because a new acquaintance was raving about it.

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks for reading Ms. Marge! Have fun in there with your friend 🙂

  21. tere says:

love your blog! meron ba clang all in package like with tent, cottage, food and water, boar ride, etc.? hehehe…dats wat we have kc at zambales hehehe

    1. Kenneth says:

On the other blog, sa Travel Guide, I think someone posted about Kuya Ron, he organizes package tours to Borawan. They have also provided the contact number.

      Thanks Ms. Tere 🙂

      1. tere says:

thank you! i talked to him already kaya lng marami daw jelly fish 🙂 hesitating to come because of the kids 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

  22. Pj says:

Nice blog sir. Tanong lang po kung magkano boat ride back and forth sa borawan lang. 9 kami. Thanks.

  23. Rozie says:

Are there sea snakes in those places? Or did the locals say anything about sea snakes there?

    1. Kenneth says:

Haven’t heard if there are any. When we swam in Kwebang Lampas and Borawan we were not able to encounter one.

  24. jam says:

ask ko lng magkano po ung additional rate kung mg overnight sa borawan kung dala kming sariling tent. thanks

    1. Kenneth says:

Bale yung camping fee na lang po yung additional na babayaran ninyo.

      1. jen says:

so i will pay 200 na lang po if overnight?the island is not strict naman to certain kinds of food?:)

      2. Kenneth says:

To be exact, you can check the rates with them but I guess yes additional na lang kung may tent kayo.

They don’t check the foods you bring 🙂

  25. Jay says:

    1. Ask ko lng po kung yung Kwebang Lampas ay nasa Isla Puting Buhangin? o magkaibang Island un?
    2. Ask ko din po kung pwede ung ganitong way: from Padre Burgos – Boatride to Dalampitan – Boatdride to Borawan – Boadride to Isla Puting Buhangin – Boatride to Pagbilao land – Going to somewhere (@P1,800 boatride fee)?

    Thanks in advance

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hello Jay!

      1. Nasa Puting Buhangin ang Kwebang Lampas.
      2. The 1800php boat ride fee is only inclusive of Dampalitan-Borawan-Puting Buhangin, depending on which you want to go first.

      You’re welcome.

  26. jm says:

Sir may pitch tent fee and overnight fee ba sa dampalitan?
Kapag sa 3 island kami ppunta lahat ba yun may entrance fee?
May for rent po ba na tent sa Dampalitan?
    Salamat po Sir!

    1. Kenneth says:

You can just pay for the overnight fee sa Dampalitan and it is going to be per tent like around 100 each. At oo, may entrance fee per beach pero it isn’t that costly din naman.

For the tent, sa Dampalitan they do have a cottage but for the tent you need to bring your own or contact the guide in advance to check with them if they got extras that you can rent.

      You’re welcome JM.

  27. Trixie says:

    Hi Kenneth/Mr.Bratpacker,

Thanks so much for the information you wrote down in this blog. Very helpful. We’re planning to visit these 3 areas next weekend. 🙂 Also, I contacted Mercy Ramos (09195306590, sa provided by lakwatserdeprimera.com) and found out the following rates for Dampalitan Beach:

    Entrance: P60
    Cottage: P850-1000
    Tent Pitching: P200/tent
    Fresh Water (1 drum): P400
    Tent Rental: P500/tent

Hope this helps the rest of your readers when they plan to go to Dampalitan 🙂 Thanks again!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Thanks for this Trixie!

  28. jenefa says:

hi there is that really the new rates for dampalitan?.. we are planning to go there and we are 4. i thought its only 20php yung entrance fee sa dampalitan
    kahit small cottage 800?

    1. Kenneth says:

You can opt not to take the cottage as it would be too big for your group apat lang kasi kayo then just pay the entrance fee. That was what the fees back then and we were even advised that they cannot implement such rates since they weren’t able to pay their taxes to the government. I’ll check about it. 🙂

    2. Trixie says:

You can confirm updated rates by texting/calling Ms. Vanessa (0915-106-7594, as provided by Mrbratpacker) or Mercy Ramos (0919-530-6590, as provided by lakwatserdeprimera.com). Though I have already texted/called both just this week and they confirmed these rates 🙂

  29. KC says:

Hi! ask ko lang po, what resort would you recommend na pagstayhan just in case hindi kami magcacamping? we’re planning to go there this May, with family. Thank You! 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

I’ve never stayed in a resort in Padre Burgos but there’s this one called The Tamarind Tree Resort, you can maybe try it there 🙂

  30. Sam says:

Hello! Ano po ba ang magandang island hopping itinerary? 2D and 1N po kami. Balak po namin magovernight sa Dampalitan Beach

    1. Kenneth says:

You can check our itinerary here: https://mrbratpacker.wordpress.com/2013/10/09/travel-guide-to-borawan/ we also had 2D and 1N in Padre Burgos.

      Enjoy Sam!

      1. Sam says:

May signal po ba sa Dampalitan Beach?

      2. Kenneth says:

        Yes there is 🙂

  31. Yna says:

Hi have you tried to jump off the cliff? How safe was it?

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes, for a couple of times. It is safe though I really find it scary. 😀 I have developed a fear of heights after jumping a 50ft cliff in Malapascua.

  32. 1. 1800php Boat rent is overnight for 3 island? per day last day kasi namen sa borowan meron na ba dung sasakyan pa-manila or need pa ng boat pabalik for public transport?

    2. may kuryente po ba sa borowan if ever ng magchacharge ng device?

    Thanks. 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

The 1800php is for the three beaches at balikan na po yun. Sa Padre Burgos po yung parang jump-off point before going to the beaches at pabalik sa Manila.

Last time when we were there there was no electricity at Borawan.

      You’re welcome.

      1. Ralf says:

is that per person?? or per boat?

      2. Kenneth says:

per boat at balikan na po sya

  33. setset says:

    Thanks for this very helpful.
Just wnt to ask po kung my pweding kainan doon? Or we need to bring our own food?

    1. Kenneth says:

Bring your own food since there are no eateries around.Or pwede din bumili sa market nila with fresh sea foods only if you have a cook set and a burner with you. 🙂

      Thanks setset.

  34. Mark says:

    Hi Kenneth,
Just wondering why if may cookware set for rent sila sa borawan. Since mahirap magdala ng cookware set sa malayuang trip. Thanks!
    Good blog, very informative.

    1. Mark says:

And if may ice na available dun. Thanks. 🙂

      1. Kenneth says:

Pwede na magpabili kayo ng ice sa boat guide nyo like nung sa ginawa namin.

    2. Kenneth says:

Yung pang bundok kasi dala namin kaya hindi ganun ka bulky. Wala kasi silang ganung for rent sa Borawan. You’re welcome Mark.

  35. Abby says:

    Hi Kenneth,

Thanks sa info! We are going to quezon this weekend and Im still confuse kung anung island uunahin namin, panu ang set up o kung san magandang mag overnight though Ive been in Kwebang Lampas last year. Parang lahat kasi maganda. Thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

For convenience sake at para mas maka mura, Go to Dampalitan first, set up your tents then leave your belongings there or you can head directly to Puting Buhangin tapos sa Dampalitan for the sunset. The following day, Borawan. You’re welcome Abby 🙂

    2. Cris says:

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hello fellow brat! lol

Unfortunately, someone I knew told me that the place is no longer that beautiful. But anyway, tell me about its condition when you get back.

      Enjoy!

      1. Hi, let’s see 🙂 hahaha. thanks po. i hope it will get back in the way it’s used to be. waaaaa.

      2. Kenneth says:

  43. JHECJHEC says:

just got back home from Dampalitan Island. okay naman dun relaxing and peaceful, kaming dalawa lang ng partner ko ang nasa island over night simula pagdating at pag alis.

    1. Kenneth says:

Thanks for sharing your experience Ma’am. Let us just be cautious next time.

  44. dayan says:

hi i just want to ask if puting buhangin lng ang destination how much ang boat rental back and fort?thank you.

    1. Kenneth says:

I honestly have no idea. But you can contact the guides directly to check with them with the price. If we base it on the rate they’re asking for those who wants to visit Borawan alone which 800php, I think it would be the same.

      1. dayan says:

        thank you kenneth 🙂

      2. Kenneth says:

        You’re welcome 🙂

  45. dayan says:

btw kenneth , i just want to ask if tama ung destination na pupuntahan namen this coming holy week lucena grand terminal – terminal to pagbilao – tricycle from aplaya – then rent a boat going to puting buhangin island. is it correct?hope you can help me.

    thank you so much!

    1. Kenneth says:

      Hi Dayan,

It’s bus to Lucena – bus to Padre Burgos – go down at Basiao junction – trike to aplaya – boat ride to Puting Buhangin.

  46. Ivan says:

Hello there! So the boat ride going to borawan will always be 800php? What if dalawa lang kami? Will we still pay the same amount? 🙂

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes sir. That is why it is recommended to go in groups if you want to save more.

  47. Judy Felipe says:

Hi Kenneth! Plan po namin ay 3Days and 2Nights..first day puting buhangin then go to borawan overnight then the next day dampalitan(di pa po sure kung magstay kami sa dampalitan til overnight or back to borawan)then whole day borawan na po..my question is 1800 pa din po kaya ang boat rental namin..Or un 1800 for 3 beaches is good for one day lang? 3 lang kami..me,my hubby at daughter ko..

    1. Kenneth says:

Yes, 1800 pa dn. What we did was we went to Puting Buhangin first then stayed at Dampalitan (overnight). The following day, we went to Borawan.

Hi Beck! I actually have made a travel guide for this, you may search for Travel Guide to Borawan to answer your questions 🙂

  49. Lenand says:

Hi! ask ko lang po what if we’re bringin our car, my alam po ba kayong parking area sa padre burgos na pwede namen pag iwanan habang nasa borawan kame? Thanks!

    1. Kenneth says:

There is a big space malapit sa Pantalan, you may be able to park your car there. You may also want to contact the guide directly to check with them.

  50. Shelly says:

hi. Is it safe to bring kids to borawan and dampalitan. Ages are 3, 5 & 7. I want them to experience an overnight camping at the beach. They also wanted to do bonfire. Can u suggest the best beach where we can do an overnight camping that is fun and safe at the same time. Tnx

    1. Kenneth says:

For me safest is in Borawan since there is a guard/caretaker around but you cannot set a bonfire there. You can in Dampalitan however there is a fee.

  51. Sani says:

Hi! Ask ko lang po. Magkano po kaya ang kailangan dalhin na pocket money if we will stay in Borawan overnight? 🙂

    1. Sani says:

Pati po kung magkano lahat lahat ang magagastos. My college friends are still undecided kung Borawan ba talaga ang pupuntahan namin weeks after our graduation. Hoping for your response on this matter Sir! God bless!

  53. just want to share the bad experience we had at borawan.
we made a reservation for a tent and cottage at borawan by texting allan (his number is on the borawan tarpaulin) and boat reservation was made through ate tess (may-ann’s store)

when we arrived at borawan on april 25 at about 6 PM, the staff at borawan said that she would not let us rent a cottage since the boat ride was from someone else. they require their guests to hire the boat at campo pier (more money for them i guess.) and she said that it was just probably a misunderstanding since allan did not know that we were renting the boat from someone else. she ended up letting us rent the tent and cottage since i showed her allan’s number.

it would seem that they want to monopolize the boat for hire business.

there is a new beach open in the area, it is called mangayao park. the water is a bit murky but you can still swim. it is not crowded like the rest. it was just us plus another group on a saturday during the summer. the drawback is, the gents comfort room is still being constructed, the ladies was already usable. and overnight is not allowed. and the plus side is, entrance is free. (visited april 25, 2015)

    1. Kenneth says:

I’m sorry to hear about this bad experience. I might as well post this on my FB page to let everyone know.

      Thanks!

  54. Maribeth says:

hi we are planning to go here with my friends on May 1 to 2. May tips po ba kau for the food and water to drink?May nakausap kmi na magpaparent ng tent and boat 300 daw un tent good for 2? is the price okay?nice blog btw!really informative!saka ano pa un ibang expenses?may isa kasi kmi kasuap may 220 per pax pa daw n entrance fee?

    1. Kenneth says:

For the food and water, better if you bring your own or you can also let the locals cook for your food. For the tent, I think it is good. Yun lang sa entrance fee yung d ko alam bat 220. I have made a travel guide as well to Borawan, you might want to check it for the budget and expenses. 🙂

  55. Glad Cedeño says:

    Hi Kenneth,

how much yung fare ng tricycle (ilalagay ko lang sa itinerary ko). tska wala bang additional yung boat kasi bumalik pa ulit kayo ng dampalitan bago nag borawan? mas gusto ko kasi sa dampalitan mag overnight.

    1. Kenneth says:

We did opt to walk instead of paying for the tricycle ride. I don’t have any idea of how much po siya :/

      Wala ng additional 🙂

  68. borawanbakamo? says:

ive just been the last week. This is one of the worst beaches ive been to. lahat may bayad. kahit yung water na pangligo would cost you 50 pesos per gallon and when you use the water hindi bubula ung sabon. They would take every penny you have. As in simot pera mo. When you go to this place don’t expect too much. It is literally different from the pictures you see online. the water is now murky and not conducive for swimming. Buti na lang masaya mga ksma ko. Dahil dun nag enjoy ako.

    1. Kenneth says:

Couldn’t agree more. Borawan would really rip your pockets off.
